Diaz Tests Positive For Marijuana After UFC 143, Rematch Against Condit Canceled

UFC welterweight fighter Nick Diaz is coming off a controversial loss against Carlos Condit which occurred last Saturday, February 4th at UFC 143.  Many MMA fans across the globe clearly wanted to see them stand and bang once again, so Condit approached the UFC organization and decided to give Diaz an immediate rematch.  Apparently, Condit was willing to go at it with Diaz again in order to prove that he was the better fighter in the 170-pound division.

Days after hearing that there would be a ‘Condit vs Diaz 2″ match, the drug results came in for all fighters that participated in the Las Vegas UFC 143 fight card. Diaz was the only one that tested positive for an illegal drug– marijuana that is.  This isn’t the first time Diaz tested positive for recreational drugs, but now this will push him down the division and who knows if he’ll fight on a main card ever again as UFC President Dana White told media that he was “beyond disappointed” with him.

In the end, it might not even matter because we still don’t know if Diaz will ever make an Octagon return.  The Cesar Gracie BJJ black belt had made an official announcement that he would be retiring from Mixed Martial Arts competition after experiencing once again what he believed was poor judging in his fight against Condit. Diaz and his camp were extremely disappointed as they thought he had clearly won the fight.

UFC President Dana White shared his thoughts on Diaz testing positive for that green stuff:

“I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana,” White said in the statement that the UFC distributed to the media. “It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.”
