Anderson Silva To Undergo Elbow Surgery, Title Defense Likely For 2010

Anderson Silva upset 2

Anderson “The Spider” Silva will undergro elbow surgery, which means that he won’t be defending his UFC middleweight title until early 2010.  No details on his surgery were released, but what we do know is that he will be missing the remainder of 2009 in order to gain back full strength and motion from his elbow surgery.

Immediately after UFC 100, UFC President Dana White stated that Dan “Hollywood” Henderson had earned a second chance to fight Silva for the 185-pound belt.  At UFC 102, Nate “The Great” Marquardt made a huge  statement by knocking out the undefeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert in the first round.  With Silva being sidelined until 2010, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a match-up between Henderson and Marquardt later this year.  Then again, Yushin Okami can jump right into the mix as well, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the UFC plans to do next in the middleweight division.
