Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Interested In Possible Gilbert Melendez vs Eddie Alvarez Fight

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker talked about the possibility of matching up their current lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez up against DREAM lightweight fighter/Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

Strikeforce is known for co-promoting mixed martial arts events, which includes past events with Japanese promotion DREAM and Holland-based organization M-1 Global.

So how does Melendez vs. Alvarez sound?  Most hardcore MMA fans would be thrilled to watch this Super Fight, let’s pray it actually happens.

From Scott Coker:

We are open to fighting other fighters in other leagues. Doing co-promotions and fighting other fighters from other leagues is never going to be an issue. It just a matter of how do we do it? What’s the deal? We’ll sit down and give it a shot. I would love to see that fight between Eddie and Gilbert. It comes down to details, like, after the fight’s over, who owns the intellectual property rights? Is it them? Is it us? Do we co-share it? There’s a tremendous amount of points to be negotiated. And then is it on our broadcast platform? Is it on their broadcast platform? What rights are we going to retain? What rights are they going to retain? What if he wins the title? Is there an automatic rematch clause? It just goes on and on and on. But you know what? We got it done with the Fedor piece, and so I feel like we can do it with anybody.”

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Says Fedor Emelianenko Will Fight Fabricio Werdum In June

March 25, 2010 by admin

Many of us were wondering when Strikeforce heavyweight MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko would be stepping back into the cage.  His three-fight contract with Strikeforce leaves him with two fights remaining after defeating ‘The Grim’ Brett Rogers back in November of 2009.

Strikeforce CEO confirmed a bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum headed for June 2010.  Fedor will be part of a co-promoted event involving Strikeforce and M-1 Global.  We’ll keep you guys posted on the official fight card once it is released.

From Scott Coker:

“M-1 Global and Strikeforce entered into a three fight contract exclusive for Fedor to fight in a co-promotion between Strikeforce and M-1 Global, and as you know we did the first fight on Nov 7 in Chicago. Fedor is now scheduled to fight in June towards the end of the month in America against Fabricio Werdum.”

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Excited To Sign Free Agent Dan Henderson

Scott Coker

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker couldn’t believe the UFC had let go a main event fighter like Dan Henderson.  The recent multi-fight deal has made Coker very happy and as part of the contract, Henderson will have the opportunity to face either the middleweight champion Jake Shields or light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi.  We’ll just have to wait and see who Henderson decides to choose right after Christmas.

From Scott Coker:

“Well, I don’t want to get into the whole Dana White thing. All I can say is, how often does a guy like Dan Henderson become available? He’s a main event fighter. Every promotion would like to have Dan Henderson fight in a main event for them. Main event fighters are few and far between, and when you get a guy like Dan, who can contend for titles in two weight classes, it’s a good day for Strikeforce. Dan said he’d let me know after Christmas what weight class he wants to start in. He and Gegard (Mousasi) is a natural fight and he against Jake Shields for our middleweight title is a fight he would want. He would like to fight in both weight classes. We’re excited to get Dan in the mix, and we’re going to have more signings soon. We’re continuing to build Strikeforce as a mixed martial arts company and Dan is a big part of that.”
