James Toney Believes He’s The Best Striker In MMA, Ready To Send Randy Couture To The Hospital

Boxing legend James ‘Lights Out’ Toney believes he’s the best striker in MMA, even better than current UFC middleweight champion Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva. Toney seems to be pumped up for UFC 118 as he is scheduled to face Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture as part of the co-main event in Boston.
‘Lights Out’ is not only ready to make his MMA debut, but he also plans on making a statement to all UFC fans by sending ‘The Natural’ straight to the hospital after swinging his heavy right hand.
From James Toney:
“Like you just said, you talk about Anderson Silva as the best striker in the division, I’m best the striker in the MMA period. I’m gonna show everybody how to punch for real. I’ve been in there with the best fighters in the world period. I ain’t talking about boxing or talking about MMA. Boxing is all that matters. Whatever it comes down to, when Randy Couture sees me ready to shoot that right hand up, I’m telling you he’s not even gonna see it coming, it’s gonna be over and he’s gonna be on his way to the hospital.”

Freddie Roach Says UFC Signs Older Boxers Like James Toney To Make MMA Look Better

American boxing trainer and former professional boxer Freddie Roach is pretty upset with the way the UFC obtained James Toney.
Why?
Roach believes that UFC President Dana White hires “older boxers” like James Toney to prove that mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters are better than professional boxers. Although we all know that MMA and boxing are two completely different combat sports, this may very well be a secret tactic to bring in more fans to the sport of MMA.
From Freddi Roach:
“I think it’s a bad decision. I don’t think it will work. I think the UFC is just trying to say they’re better than boxing because if James fought Couture in a boxing match James would absolutely destroy him, but if he fights him in a UFC/MMA style fight James does not have a ground game, once he goes to the ground it’s over. It’s completely two different sports and they’re just trying to use older boxers to make their sport look better.”

James Toney Almost Signed With Moosin MMA Before Inking Fight Contract With UFC
May 12, 2010 by admin

James ‘Lights Out’ Toney was very close to signing up with the Moosin “Gods of Martial Arts” fight card, which is being co-promoted by Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch. The UFC beat them to it as they flew in Toney to Las Vegas and convinced him to ink a deal with the North American MMA organization instead.
Here’s what Butterbean had to say:
“We had Toney committed to our card, but the UFC flew him to Las Vegas the day before he was to sign with us and they locked him up. Believe me, they’re not doing any favors throwing him in there against Couture. Couture won’t stand up with Toney, he’ll just jerk him down and beat the snot out of him. That’s not a good fight. To make good fights, you need a stand-up guy against a stand-up guy, or a take-down guy against a take-down guy. A lot of boxers have tried [MMA] and not had success. It’s important to know the differences, otherwise you look like Michael Jordan trying to play baseball.”
Randy Couture Ready To Welcome Boxing Legend James Toney To MMA At UFC 118

Five-time MMA champion Randy Couture looks to be pretty excited to welcome a boxing legend like James Toney to the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA). Couture admits that Toney will be a huge threat on his feet, but he feels that he has the right game plan for his fight against Toney at UFC 118. ’The Natural’ wants to smother up Toney against the fence to implement his dirty boxing and then he’ll probably take him to the ground to test his ground skills just a bit.
From Randy Couture:
“It looks like we’re narrowing it down, hopefully get a chance to sign for the James Toney fight here pretty quickly, and they’re looking to put that fight on at UFC 118 in Boston in August, and I’m excited about that. We’ve heard (Floyd) Mayweather and others kind of run their mouths about it, and he’s the first one that’s actually had the courage to step up and fight, and stand behind what he’s talking. Someone needs to welcome him appropriately to mixed martial arts, and show him what we’re all about. He’ll be very formidable at range, and I think anybody who faces him would be silly to stand around in front of him, and play that game. I’m going to go out and try to set him up, use my striking effectively to set him up, run him into the fence when possible, and tie him up and smother him, and put him on his butt. It’s a lot harder for him to be an effective boxer from his butt.”
