James Toney, a veteran to the sport of boxing, tells media that he turned down in what appeared to be a ridiculous offer by the UFC.

Toney refused to fight for the UFC because Dana White offered him a “chump change” 5-fight deal and he could no longer participate in any boxing event.

Fair deal or not?  Hmm, here’s what James Toney had to say:

“Dana White is a straight up ho!  He makes me a 5-fight offer for chump change and said I can’t box anymore if I accept it.  He must have lost his damn mind.  I’m the best of both worlds.   Anyone in either sport that wants to come see me, we can do this.”

The trash talk may continue, but now Frank Mir has finally stepped up and made a formal apology to Brock Lesnar, his family and his MMA fan base.  Mir had stated in an interview that he wanted to break Brock Lesnar’s neck because he hates him as a person, which caused a huge scene within the MMA community.

UFC President Dana White was very upset with the words coming out of the two-time former UFC heavyweight champion.  White spoke to Mir regarding this situation and here’s what he had to say…

From Frank Mir:

“I would like to apologize to Brock Lesnar, his family, the UFC and the UFC fans for my stupid remarks…I respect Brock, all the other fighters, and the sport of mixed martial arts. I’m sorry that I stepped out of line.”

From UFC President Dana White:

“I was disappointed by Frank Mir’s comments…Frank’s been with the UFC a long time, he’s a two-time heavyweight champion and a commentator for the WEC. I think his emotions are running high right now, he has a big fight coming up next month and he’s still upset about his loss to Lesnar. He’s been talked to, he regrets what he said, and he won’t be saying anything like that again.”

Boxing Legend James Toney Laughs At Offer Made By UFC President Dana White

January 19, 2010 by admin

The boxing legend James Toney is a current NABO and IBA Heavyweight champion, holding an impressive overall boxing record of 72-6 including 44 knockouts.  Toney has been in talks with UFC President Dana White regarding a possible MMA debut with the UFC promotion.

On January 2nd, 2010 Toney was spotted at UFC 108.  Shortly after the event was over, Toney demanded to talk to UFC President Dana White regarding fighting for the UFC.   When negotiating, he was quoted as saying “I ain’t going to allow none of them boys to lay on me like a lil’ fag, you know what I’m saying?”  In a recent interview, Toney explains how his negotiations with the UFC were pretty much a joke.

From James Toney:

“Dana White’s first offer was a joke and that lets me know he really don’t want to do this … his offer was laughable. That’s the reason I wanted the camera guy in the room with us when I sat down with Dana, so the fans would know that I was serious and if it didn’t happen, it wasn’t because of me.”

Here’s a clip of their first meeting:

Dana White Talks 10% Abu Dhabi Investment Between UFC and Flash

January 13, 2010 by admin

UFC President Dana White was interviewed in regards to a recent investment between an Abu Dhabi company named Flash and the UFC.  According to UFC’s new partnership, the company Flash acquired a lifetime 10% ownership of the UFC brand.  The goal is to expand the UFC and the sport of mixed martial arts on a worldwide level.

Interview with Dana White:

Why did UFC do this deal?
Dana White: We view this as the perfect strategic partnership to help us grow this business and fast track our expansion into other parts of the world. There are a lot of guys over the last nine years that have tried to buy in, invest, get us to go public, and try to partner up with the UFC. We got in this thing because we love this sport, we love the UFC, and we have this vision to take this thing globally and turn it into the biggest sport in the world. And when I say that, I know people think I’m a lunatic, but it’s true, and it’s gonna happen. So this deal is a perfect strategic partnership. These guys are awesome strategic partners to help us reach that goal even faster.

Who is Flash?
DW: Flash is an independent live events and entertainment organization based in the UAE. Its sole shareholder is the Government of Abu Dhabi. We got to know these guys discussing an event in Abu Dhabi. This led to the investment conversation. After conducting in-depth due diligence, they saw the tremendous global potential of the UFC brand. The guys who run this company are young, hip, aggressive visionaries. They are big thinkers.

What is the structure of this deal, what exactly does Flash own?
DW: Flash acquired a 10 percent minority stake through a direct investment in the equity of Zuffa, LLC.

How will this affect the operations of the UFC?
DW: It affects it positively. As for the day to day and how everything runs, it’s business as usual. Strategically, in our global expansion, it’s gonna help us get to certain places a lot faster than we could have done it.

Were there any concerns about bringing another partner into the UFC fold?
DW: I didn’t feel that way at all. I don’t look at this as my baby and nobody else can touch it. The way I look at this thing is that the UFC is a brand, like Microsoft, McDonald’s or any of these other ones. I think that I’m gonna have a certain amount of time here and then my time will be done and I will have done my part. And then somebody else will carry it on after me. I don’t look at this like I’m gonna be here forever. A lot of people say ‘without Dana the UFC couldn’t do this or couldn’t do that.’ I think the UFC is bigger than that and bigger than one person, including me.

How many UFC events will happen in Abu Dhabi each year?
DW: Hopefully we will conduct one event there in 2010; we’ll see after that.

How will this affect the fighters?
DW: This will have no effect on the fighters; it is business as usual.

How long is this deal? Is Flash a permanent partner?
DW: This is not a short-term investment. Flash is a long-term partner that understands the dynamics of our business model.

Was this deal done because UFC needed money?
DW: UFC has no financial issues and business has never been better. We did this deal because of the huge opportunities it provides for UFC’s global growth.

Will UFC now establish an office in Abu Dhabi?
DW: There are no immediate plans to establish an office in Abu Dhabi.

Is there anything else you want to tell UFC fans about this deal?
DW: I’ve been saying for years that UFC is going to become the biggest sport in the world. With this new partnership in place, it’s going to happen even faster. These guys get it and they love the sport. We built a relationship with them over the last few years, they’re guys we like, respect, and trust, and we know that they’re the perfect strategic partners. We made all the right moves over the years, done all the right things along the way, and we know that this is a good thing for the sport.

UFC President Dana White Fed Up With Internet Piracy, Prepared To Take Legal Action

January 6, 2010 by admin

Mixed martial arts events including the UFC are constantly streamed live through various websites.  Other websites provide full fight videos immediately after the events, which allows fight fans to watch their favorite bouts.  Those that take the opportunity to watch the bouts online either decided not to purchase the pay-per-view event or they were just too busy at the time of the event.  UFC President Dana White has decided to put an end to this piracy by taking legal action.

What pissed off Dana White the most was finding out that a pub by the name of “The Draft” allowed someone to connect a laptop to their television sets in order to stream the UFC 104 ‘Machida vs. Shogun’ event.  Due to the illegal streaming for their customers, owner Derek Brady may be forced to pay $640,000 USD and other fees if found guilty.

From Dana White:

“The piracy of live sporting events is illegal, it kills jobs, and it threatens the expansion of US based companies. The UFC is potentially losing millions of dollars a year from piracy…When people start going to jail, people will stop doing it. It’s going to be a battle, man. It’s going to be a battle, but I’m ready to (expletive) fight. We’re gonna go after them, we’re gonna go after them hard, and we’re gonna hurt ‘em. (Piracy) hasn’t cost us anything compared to what it’s going to cost us to go after these guys. It’s gonna cost us a lot of money, but guess what—it’s gonna cost them a lot of money. It’s gonna get to the point where it’s like, you know what, (expletive) it, maybe we shouldn’t pirate MMA any more. These websites … you got these websites like Justin.tv, and they pirate all kinds of things. They play all kinds of (expletive) on there. Well, we’re gonna make it where it’s not worth it to put UFC events up on the website.”
