Yushin "Thunder" Okami was given a title shot not too long ago as he would face Anderson "The Spider" Silva for the UFC middleweight belt. However, a hand injury he suffered during a training session forced him out of the UFC 90 fight card. Instead, Patrick "The Predator" Cote was given the opportunity, replacing Okami for the middleweight title shot at UFC 90.
Okami seems to be recuperating very quickly and his training
staff feels that he’ll be ready by December for the UFC 92 event. The Japanese superstar has agreed to take on former KOTC champion Dean Lister. Lister is coming off a 2-fight winning streak, defeating Jordan Radev at UFC 79 by unanimous decision and then submitted Jeremy Horn via a guillotine choke at the Ultimate Fighter 7 finale.
Okami also has a 2-fight winning streak as he defeated Jason MacDonald at UFC 77 via a unanimous decision and then knocked out the former champ Evan Tanner, who recently died in the deserts of Sourthern California. Okami looks to be one fight away from a second opportunity for the UFC middelweight title if he does indeed get passed Lister.
