UFC 78: Joe Doerksen In, Dave Terrell Out

Dave Terrell will no longer be performing on the upcoming UFC 78:Validation event due to an ankle injury he suffered most likely during his training.  According to an MRI exam that was performed last Tuesday, doctors indicated that he tore his tendons around the ankle region, forcing him to cancel his fight with Ed Herman.

Luckily, the UFC was able to quickly find a replacement for the event that is set to take place on November 17, 2007.  With just a 3 week notice, Joe Doerksen immediately started his intense training as he prepares for a very difficult middleweight bout.

Joe Doerksen (39-10-0) had a 7-fight winning streak until he was defeated by Paulo Filho at WEC 29 in Las Vegas this past August.  The Canadian will be looking to get another winning streak going when he faces The Ultimate Fighter 3 finalist, Ed Herman.

As for David Terrell, this wasn’t the first time he was forced to cancel a fight.  He has been scratched off 3 consecutive bouts already including UFC  62, UFC 66 and now UFC 78 (all due to different types of injuries).  His last fight was against Scott Smith where he was able to sneak in a submission win via a rear naked choke in the first round.   We hope to see Terrell back in the octagon one day as we haven’t seen him 100% healthy and able to fight for almost 2 years.  Best of luck to him on his road to recovery!
