Thiago Alves Waits Patiently For His Shot At The UFC Welterweight Title

Thiago "Pitbull" Alves couldn’t be anymore patient, especially after getting past 3 top fighters in the UFC welterweight division.  First he knocked out Karo Parisyan and then he destroyed former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes.  In his most recent bout against Josh Koscheck, Alves dominated all three rounds and acquired his seventh consecutive win in the UFC.

So what’s next for The Pitbull??

Well his training team insists he wait for Dana White to officially announce his shot for the UFC welterweight title as they strongly feel he is next in line.  However, the downside on all of this is that the 170-pound champion, George St. Pierre, looks to prepare himself for a title match against BJ "The Prodigy" Penn in January 2009.  This means that Alves would have to wait around Spring of 2009 for his chance at the belt.  The Pitbull doesn’t seem to want to wait that long because all he wants to stay active and continue fighting.

Here’s what The Pitbull had to say in a recent interview with mmaweekly radio:

"I don’t really know because that’s something inside of me that I can’t stay still for too long…I have to punch somebody, I have to get in a fight…I don’t mind waiting, I don’t mind doing another fight, but my manager and my camp don’t want me to fight.  They want me to fight for the title, so whatever they want me to do…we’re going to have a meeting with Dana White and the Fertitta brothers at the next UFC and we’re going to talk about it…we’ll see what we’re going to do…whoever the champ is let’s do it (referring to whoever wins between George St. Pierre and BJ Penn)…I want to fight the best in the world and I want to knock him out."

These UFC fights just keep getting better and better every time!
