Strikeforce Middleweight Title Event: Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le (March 29th)

Finally!!!  Showtime television will bring us the fight many of us have been wanting to watch for a very long time.  Former UFC middleweight champion Frank Shamrock will be taking on the undefeated middleweight Strikeforce contender Cung Le.  The Strikeforce middleweight title match is scheduled to take place on March 29th in San Jose, Calfornia.  The fight card is not complete, but Jake Shields is expected to participate in this event.  Gilbert Melendez will also be fighting that same night as he will look to defend his EliteXC lightweight title.

San Shou expert Cung Le is currently 5-0 in mixed martial arts, but many say that this bout will put him to the true MMA test.  We have seen Le in action before, knocking out his opponents with karate kicks many of us aren’t used to seeing when we watch this sport.  He’ll have to make sure he’s good on the ground just as he is standing up when he gets ready to face an experienced fighter like Frank Shamrock.

Shamrock’s impressive MMA record stands at 23-8-1, defeating top names in the past such as Bas Rutten, Jeremy Horn, Tito Ortiz, Phil Baroni and Cesar Gracie.  The former UFC middleweight champion and former King of Pancrase has been in this sport for almost 15 years.  Shamrock has won 12 of his last 13 bouts, losing only one fight due to a DQ (disqualification) when he kneed Renzo Gracie in the back of his head while they were on the ground.

This is the fight many of us have been waiting patiently for and it’s finally here.  There will be a news conference next week with Strikeforce and EliteXC representatives where they will discuss this upcoming event.  I’ll be keeping everyone posted!
