Ricco "Suave" Rodriguez had placed the heavyweight belt he won against Randy Couture at UFC 39 up for sale on an Ebay auction. The reason why he had placed it up for sale was to use that money to set up a gym of his own. It seems like $29,999.00 USD was a bit too much for anyone to bid as there was not one single bid for that UFC belt. With only a day left on the auction, the item was completely removed and who knows if it will be placed back on.
After Josh Barnett was tested positive for steroids, the title was stripped from him and it was all up to Ricco and Randy Couture
to fight for the belt. It was a rough battle amongst the two warriors,
but Ricco was able to submit Randy via strikes in the 5th round and won
the vacant UFC heavyweight title.
Hopefully he found an alternative to set up the mixed martial arts gym he wanted to have. Best of luck to Mr. Suave with that. He is expected to participate this Saturday (January 12) at the San Diego Sports Arena, where he will fight Mike Kyle in the WCO (World Cage fighting Organization) event. Also on the card is the return of Renato "Babalu" Sobral and Mark "The Smashing Machine" Kerr.
