Randy Couture declines his title defense against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Randy "Captain America" Couture has goals and plans with his life and mixed martial arts doesn’t look to be a part of it.  It is obvious that Randy wants to fight Fedor Emelianenko, but the UFC is making it basically impossible for a fight between Couture and Fedor to ever happen.  Couture is done with facing other opponents and defending his title as there is simply nothing else he wants to prove to all MMA fans around the world.  Due to this, it seems like there will indeed be a vacant title for UFC 81-Breaking Point.  Although it is not official yet, Dana White will most likely give Tim Sylvia another chance at acquiring the heavyweight title as he would most likely face former PrideFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

There are several other important issues that revolve around Couture’s resigning.  The compensation he earns at the ultimate fighting championships isn’t even close to covering the value of his wife and the time he wants to spend with her from now on.  “I’ve been burning it for three or four years now" Couture stated.  "I want to take some time and go on a vacation, spend some
time with my wife.  We’ve been married a year now and we’ve been together very,
very little in that year.  It’s been crazy. It’s been difficult on us. I’ve got
a nice house and I don’t even get to spend any time in it hardly, so take a
little time now and just smell the roses so to speak.”

Not only is he thinking about the wife he loves, but he also wants to complete the movie he started as it is also valuable to him as an actor.  He currently stars in “The Scorpion King: The Akkadian,” a major motion picture from Universal Studios and a prequel to the 2002 film “The Scorpion King.”

Captain America will enjoy his life a bit more as he will not be training day and night for upcoming defense titles.  However, he admits that he still owes the UFC, especially since he did not complete all of the fights required when he signed his contract.  After talking with Dana White last week during a meeting, he declined a title defense for UFC 81 and  he told the media that he will not ruin his relationship with the organization he was a part of for 11 years.  His only future MMA goals are to continue training some of his fighters over in his camp at Xtreme Couture.

Here’s a snip from Randy Couture himself:

“We’ve cleared the air, and hopefully we’ll move forward
with some sort of relationship… I’ve got a lot of fighters and a lot of things
that hinge around mixed martial arts and the UFC as well. I want to continue to
work with them and I think that they want to continue to work with me, so we’ll
figure out how that happens… This whole resigning thing took on a life of its
own… [I was] on the cover of Yahoo, it was just insane to me… Truly a testament
to how big the sport has gotten by the reaction of me stepping down… Obviously
I have a contractual obligation with the UFC. There’s been some haggling and
things going on with all that, and Fedor signing with M-1 made the possibility
of that fight very difficult because of that and because of those contracts… I
can’t focus on or account for other people and their motivations and their
actions I have to focus on myself and just worry about that, and not let the
other stuff in … it will drive you crazy.”
