Nick Diaz is currently riding a 5-fight winning streak with his most recent rear-naked choke submission win over Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith back in early June of 2009. Prior to that, he defeated the former UFC middleweight champion Frank Shamrock by way of TKO strikes.
Diaz is looking forward to this long-awaited rematch bout against Joe “Diesel” Riggs. Riggs defeated Diaz via a unanimous decision back in February of 2006 during the UFC 57 ‘Couture vs. Liddell 3’ event.
Riggs has won back to back fights with wins over Luke Stewart and then to Phil “New York Badass” Baroni. He’ll be training hard to attain his third consecutive victory in a row as he faces Diaz on August 15, 2009. The Strikeforce event will headline the much anticipated bout between Gina “Conviction” Carano and Christiane “Cyborg” Santos. Also on the card is Alistair Overeem defending his Strikeforce heavyweight title against Fabricio Werdum.
