WEC has announced a bantamweight title fight between current champion Miguel Torres against undefeated Brian Bowles. The WEC 42 main event battle is scheduled to take place on August 9th, the day after UFC 101 takes place.
Bowles was next in line for the title shot after seven consecutive wins as a mixed martial arts fighter, acquiring four of those in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion. Bowles’ latest win was against Will Ribeiro via a guillotine submission in the third round in December of 2008 at WEC 37. Torres defended his belt via a unanimous decision in a war against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 40 back in early April of 2009.
Torres vs. Bowles was originally set for WEC 40 in Chicago, but the bout was cancelled due to a back injury sustained by Bowles. The event will be held at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
