Randy "The Natural" Couture, Forrest Griffin and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic have suffered injuries in their last fights, which have placed them under the injury list for mixed martial arts fighters.
Prior to Couture’s fight with Brock Lesnar, the Natural had some problems with his elbow and doctors had to get it scoped out. There were rumors of a possible future fight with Antonio "Minotauro" Rodrigo Nogueira who recently fought and lost against Frank Mir at the UFC 92 "The Ultimate 2008" event. The fight may still go on, but we’ll have to wait until Couture is fully recovered.
Snip from Couture:
“I had to have my left elbow scoped. There were two loose bodies in there! Old nagging injury.”
Unfortunately for Forrest Griffin, he lost his UFC light heavyweight title to Rashad "Sugar" Evans and also broke his hand at UFC 92. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was looking for his opportunity to rematch Griffin with the recent loss, but sources close to us have indicated that Griffin maybe be out for most of 2009.
Snip from The Sun:
The former light heavyweight champion broke his fist during his unsuccessful
title defence against Rashad Evans last month and has since had pins
inserted into his hand to help the healing process.
Griffin was originally set to be out of action until May but industry insiders
told SunSport he will not be back inside the Octagon until Autumn at the
earliest.
The 29-year-old Las Vegas native shot to fame by winning season one of the
Ultimate Fighter reality TV show and is a huge favourite among UFC fans.
His injury will come as a blow to UFC supremo Dana White, who had planned to
pit Griffin against Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in the summer.
The former UFC heavyweight contender, Mirko Cro Cop, fought and won against Hong Man Choi on the Fields Dynamite 2008 card on New Year’s eve. After that bout, Cro Cop was forced to undergo knee surgery. Immediately after his successful surgery, he talked to media and stated:
"I feel good. Surgeon visited me and said that everything went fine."
