Hermes Franca Leaves The UFC

Hermes Franca was recently released from his UFC contract as he plans to participate in other events outside of the United States.  Hermes decided it was best for him to leave when he told Joe Silva to release him once and for all.

Franca was suspended for one year after he fought Sean Sherk for the lightweight title in July of 2007 at UFC 73.  After 5 rounds of battle, Sherk defeated Franca via a unanimous decision.  However, both men were penalized for testing positive for steroids.  Franca pleaded guilty and received a 1 year suspension while Sherk decided to appeal his case.  Sherk was able to cut his suspension in half to only 6 months.

Armando Garcia from the CSAC warned Franca that he would have to serve his 1 year suspension if he ever planned on fighting within the United States again.  This includes absolutely no fights outside of the U.S. as well.
