Heath “Texas Crazy Horse” Herring was forced off the UFC 99 fight card due to a sickness he has been suffering these last few weeks. As part of the UFC 99 co-main event, Cheick Kongo has filled in Herring’s spot to take on the knockout artist Cain Velasquez. Velasquez, who holds an undefeated record of 5-0, has TKO’d all of his opponents in the first round except for his last match-up against Denis Stojnic (TKO came in the second round at UFC Fight Night 17).

The Frenchman fighter has won three consecutive bouts in the UFC, acquiring his most recent win over Antoni Hardonk via TKO (strikes) in the second round at the UFC 97 ‘Redemption’ event. A victory for Kongo at UFC 99 would most likely give him a title shot in the heavyweight division.

UFC 99 is scheduled to take place at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany on June 13th, 2009. The main even will headline a much anticipated bout between Rich “Ace” Franklin and Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva.
