The former UFC lightweight fighter Yves Edwards participated at the Street Certified: Tank Abbott vs. Kimbo Slice event this past Saturday. He faced James Edson Berto during his EliteXC debut and he certainly left a great impression at the BankUnited Center in Miami, Florida when he won via a flying knee.
With 3 consecutive MMA wins, Edwards somehow earned his way into acquiring a title shot in the lightweight division. It won’t be as easy as many probably think because he’ll have to prepare himself for a very difficult KJ Noons.
Although Noons lost during his debut against Charles Bennett, he was able to bounce back and win 2 consecutive matches. He too defeated James Edson Berto via a knee strike and thereafter he became the first EliteXC lightweight champion when he claimed victory over the UFC vet Nick Diaz via TKO (cuts).
KJ Noons will defend his belt and Yves Edwards wants it really badly. The war for the belt is scheduled for April 26.
