UFC 77: Medical Suspensions

The Ohio State Athletic Commission (OSAC) has released the list of fighters who were medically suspended due to certain injuries that were acquired during their UFC 77 bouts, which were held on October 20, 2007.

A few of the injuries included Rich Franklin’s broken nose/fractured hand when he faced Anderson Silva  for the middleweight title.  He re-broke his nose after having it injured by Anderson the first time they met- at UFC 64 Unstoppable.  Another injury that we can remember seeing during the main fight card was Kalib Starnes’ cut over his forehead.  The cut was so deep, the fight had to be stopped as he lost to Alan Belcher via TKO-cut.

Here is the rest of the list and the suspension time they will serve according to the OSAC:

  1. Rich Franklin-  30 days
  2. Kalib Starnes-  30 days
  3. Eric Schafer-    30 days
  4. Forrest Petz-   60 days

These fighters will be suspended for the time shown above before having a chance to fight again in any type of organization.  Forrest Petz requires 60 days rather than 30 plus medical clearance before he is given his next fight due to the severity of his injuries.
