UFC’s young welterweight prospect Rory MacDonald suffered a major eyebrow cut during a training session that has forced him out of his scheduled fight against B.J. Penn at UFC 152 — BTW, it was 38 stitches. Dana White made the recent announcement and there is no word on whether or not the bout will be postponed or if Penn will receive a new opponent. We’ll make sure to keep you guys posted.
From UFC President Dana White:
“I found out about it when Shogun was walking out (during the UFC on FOX 4 main event)…Joe Silva showed me a picture of the cut. It is right here above the eyebrow (points at eyebrow) wide open like that, from training. B.J. [Penn] doesn’t know.”
Rory MacDonald later posted a pic of the cut he suffered above his eyebrow and tweeted the following:
“2day i was cut at sparring i needed 3 layers of stitching In total i needed 38 stitches Im very sad right now that i will not be healed in time to fight sept 22…I am hoping that @bjpenndotcom will agree to have the fight on a later date in November.”
