UFC 83: Ed Herman Vs. Demian Maia

The UFC has finally completed the fight card for UFC 83, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 19th in Montreal-Canada.  The final bout that shaped up the UFC 83 fight card became official today after it was rumored for a couple of months.  Ed Herman will take on Demian Maia as part of the preliminary fight card.

After losing back to back fights in the UFC, Herman quickly bounced back into the game by winning three consecutive times either by submission or by way of knockout.  His first two losses came against  two difficult opponents, Jason Macdonald and then
Kendall Grove.  It was after both of these defeats that he decided to change his strategy.  It seemed to work because he was able to win thereafter with wins over Chris Price at UFC Fight Night 8, Scott Smith at UFC 72 and then a huge knockout victory over Joe Doerksen at UFC 78.

Demian Maia is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert who fights for Team Brasa over at Sao Paulo, Brazil.  He is currently undefeated with an impressive 7-0 record.  In August of 2007, Maia signed inked a deal with the UFC.  He was given his first opponent at UFC 77 where he went up against Ryan Jensen.  Maia was able to apply his jiu-jitsu skills on Jensen as he quickly submitted him via a rear naked choke in the first round.  He’ll be tested once again in Canada when he faces Ed Herman at UFC 83.
