UFC 79 Update: Cheick Kongo Will Face Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in December

Randy Couture will most likely look to defend his title on SuperBowl weekend.  Who will his next contender be??

We have just learned that Antonio “Minotauro” Rodrigo Nogueira will indeed be facing Cheick Kongo in December’s UFC 79 fight card according to the fight network.  According to this report, the winner of this bout will then go on to face the current Heavyweight champ of the UFC.  Looks to be a great way to finish off a good year in mixed martial arts for 2007!

Cheick Kongo is coming off a huge win against one of the top Heavyweights in this division, Mirko Cro Cop.  After dominating all 3 rounds and winning the match, he placed himself closer to the belt.  If Cheick wants that belt, he’s going to have to surpass another top Heavyweight contender in the UFC who also dreams of having that belt around his waist—Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Nogueira, the former PrideFC Heavyweight champion, is working hard to add a second win to his UFC record.  After getting knocked down from a kick during a fight with a tough Heath Herring not too long ago at UFC 73-Stacked (results and pics), Nogueira managed to survive that first round and win the rest of the fight.  A spectacular performance was appreciated by a sold-out crowd in Calfornia and now he will go on to face Kongo, in a race for the UFC Heavyweight title.
