UFC 78: Hector Lombard vs. Karo Parisyan Cancelled, Lombard’s Visa to the U.S. is Denied

Hector Lombard is a Cuban-born mixed martial artist who moved to Australia and has been training there throughout most of his career.  He was preparing for his upcoming fight against Karo Parisyan, but his Cuban visa was denied twice.  Unfortunately, the United States has strict laws that deny any Cuban from coming into the country even if it’s to participate in a sport like mixed martial arts that is recognized worldwide.

This would have been a very interesting fight to watch as they are both Judo masters.  Parisyan is coming off a 2-fight winning streak, winning his last bout against Josh Burkman at UFC 71-Chuck Liddell vs. Quinton Jackson.  Lombard has won 4 of his last 5 matches with his last one ending in a draw against Kyle Noke at CFC 1 (Cage Fighting Championships).

UFC.com still has Lombard fighting Parisyan, but that will change due to this unfortunate update.  We have not received any information on whether or not there will be a replacement or if the bout itself is going to be cancelled completely.   We will keep everyone informed as soon as we find out.
