Stephan Bonnar vs. Eric Schafer at UFC 77

Eric Shafer seems more than ready to get back into the octagon after a long absence.  His last fight against Michael Bisping wasn’t too pretty as he was TKO’d at UFC 66-Liddell vs.Ortiz 2.  It’s time for Eric to show everyone that he is capable of coming back and this next fight would be his best chance.

On the other hand, Stephan Bonnar is just about set for anything as he has regained his confidence after submitting Mike Nickels with a rear-naked choke in the first round.  Bonnar needed this win after he had lost to both Forrest Griffin and Rashad Evans back to back in two heart-breaking losses via decision.

We found out about this upcoming fight at UFC 77 through a comment left by Eric Shafer:

I got a call this morning from my manager Jeff Curran. Jeff, who just
won his WEC debut on Sunday, told me that the UFC wants me to fight
Stephan Bonnar — oh snap! Stephan and I shared the same kickboxing
coach (Duke Roufus), until Stephan moved out to Vegas a few weeks ago.
I would probably rather fight anyone else to avoid conflicts, but
business is business… So it is on…

The match-up for both of these great athletes looks to be very important for the both of them as they continue to work their way to the top at the Light Heavyweight level.
