Randy Couture: UFC and Strikeforce Now Have An “Adversarial Relationship”

Randy Couture

The former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, Randy Couture, talked with media about the recent 3-fight deal between Strikeforce and Fedor Emelianenko.  He also mentions the fact that top promotions such as EliteXC and Affliction haven’t been able to compete with the UFC.  Although many orgranizations have fallen in the past, “Strikeforce is the last one standing.”  Now that Strikeforce added the #1 MMA heavyweight in the world and has the potential of acquiring more free agents from the former Affliction promotion, many of us can truly say that Strikeforce is shaping up rather quickly.  According to Couture, the UFC and Strikeforce are somewhat in an “adversarial relationship” right about now.

From Randy Couture:

“The back-and-forth is starting now between the UFC and Strikeforce…There were a lot of competitors out there for the UFC, and Strikeforce is the last one standing. So it was only a matter of time before the adversarial relationship started between them, I think, with the Affliction stuff and those contracts being up in the air and both organizations trying to sign those fighters…I think most people consider him the best heavyweight in the world…The guy is very impressive, with what he did to Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski, and then going back to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and all the other people he’s defeated. He wins his fights in pretty devastating fashion most of the time. Most people consider him the best heavyweight, and as a fighter, those are the people you want to fight. You want to fight the best guy.”
