Strikeforce has announced the heavyweight championship bout in San Jose, California as it will take place on November 16 of 2007. The vacant heavyweight title will feature Paul "The Head Hunter"Buentello as he will take on Strikeforce newcomer and former Pride FC veteran Alistair "Demolition Man" Overeem.
Overeem recently lost at K-1 Hero’s on September 17th to the Russian beast Sergei Kharitonov via TKO-strikes. It has been rough for the 27-year old lately as he hasn’t been on a winning streak since early 2006. He will look to start fresh in his new home at Strikeforce when he faces Buentello in a quest for the heavyweight title.
The Head Hunter has won 4 times in a row and will look to add his 5th win when he faces the demolition man on November 12th. He admits that it will be a difficult fight for him, but he will give it all he has as he is hungry for the belt. This is what he had to say:
"Yes, it’s going to be another striking war, but that’s fine with me…All I got to do is hit him before he hits me."
Other fighters expected to be part of that same fight card on November 16 is former UFC veteran Joe Riggs, Cung Le and Frank Shamrock. More updates on this upcoming Strikeforce event in San Jose, California will be posted when the fight card is official.
