The #1 MMA heavyweight fighter in the world Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko will take on the former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi at the M-1 Global: ‘Breakthrough’ event. Both fighters will collide in an exhibition sparring match, similar to when Fedor faced Shinya Aoki back in April.
Let us remind you that the match-up between Fedor and Mousasi will be solely a grappling session and not a mixed martial arts fight. This M-1 Global: ‘Breakthrough’ event is scheduled to take place on August 28th in Kansas City, Missouri. As part of the main event that evening, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will take on UFC/PrideFC vet Mark Kerr in an MMA bout.
Mousasi is set to make his Strikeforce debut on August 15th against current light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral. Fedor is expected to make his Strikeforce debut in Fall of 2009.
From M-1 Global:
“We were blown away by just how popular Fedor’s exhibition vs. Aoki in Japan was. Fedor and Gegard have sparred many times together and the sessions have always been intense. Now fight fans watching on HDNet and those attending live in Kansas City will get a rare glimpse at two of the best fighters in the world sparring each other.”
