The former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi is currently training for one of the toughest matches in his MMA career. Although Mousasi and Babalu Sobral are both very good ground fighters, many say that Babalu has the clear advantage if the fight is taken to the mat. Mousasi disagrees with many of the MMA experts, warning everyone that his Jiu-Jitsu should not be underestimated. Nonetheless, Mousasi plans to keep the fight standing up in order to exploit Babalu’s weakness.
Mousasi is scheduled to take on Babalu as part of the Affliction ‘Trilogy’ co-main event. Affliction 3 will headline a WAMMA heavyweight title fight between current champion Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett. The event will take place on August 1st at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Snip from Gegard Mousasi:
“I think (if) he underestimates me on the ground, he will be surprised…People have taken me down and (opponents) think it’s easy to take me down. We’ll see. It’s a fight. It’s not a jiu-jitsu fight. I’m going to punch him.”
