Fabricio Werdum Signs Deal With Strikeforce, May Fight Alistair Overeem Down The Road

The former UFC/PrideFC fighter, Fabricio Werdum, has announced that his new home for MMA will be Strikeforce.  The Brazilian superstar is happy to have landed a fight deal with the promotion, making him amongst the top contenders in the Strikeforce heavyweight division.  There were rumors of Werdum possibly fighting current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair “Demolition Man” Overeem in the next June 6 event.  However, Werdum has explained that the fight may be too soon for him but expects to match-up with him some time down the road:

“Yeah, but that’s not a fight (Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum) necessarily we feel we’d have to do first … there are some other free agents out there, and guys fighting with other companies who aren’t exclusive. So we’ll explore those options before we make the announcement of who (Alistair Overeem is) fighting.”

Werdum was released by the UFC after losing to Junior Dos Santos via TKO (strikes) in under 2 minutes at UFC 90.  He left the UFC promotion with a record of 2-2, which included wins over Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 80 and to Brandon “The Truth” Vera at UFC 85.  His only other loss came against the  former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei “Pitbull” Arlovski at UFC 70.
