The former PrideFC middleweight grand prix champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is back in training after a rough 2008 filled with injuries. Shogun last fought in September of 2007 against current UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. In a disappointing debut performance for the Brazilian, Shogun was defeated by Griffin via a rear-naked choke submission in the third round. Since then, he was forced to undergo knee surgery after rupturing his ACL during a training session. He did not fight in all of 2008, but was medically cleared to start training not too long ago.
Shogun is returning to the octagon to face Mark "The Hammer" Coleman at UFC 93, which is scheduled to take place on January 17, 2009 in Dublin, Ireland.
