Frankie Edgar Gets BJJ Purple Belt From Ricardo Almeida, Set For Matt Wiman At UFN 16

Frankie "The Answer" Edgar, current UFC lightweight fighter and former Ring of Combat champion, was awarded with the purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  His master and current UFC middleweight contender, Ricardo "Cachorrao" Almeida, proudly gave him the belt after months of hard work and dedication.

Edgar will continue to train his BJJ with Almeida as he prepares for his big fight against Matt "Handsome" Wiman at UFC Fight Night (UFN) 16: ‘Fight for the Troops.’  The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 10 at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Here’s a snip from the event that was held yesterday at the YMCA gym in New Jersey:

Black Belt Ceremony 2008… Simply Spectacular!
Words are not enough to describe such event. It was a fantastic, flawless night.  Hundreds
of students and special guests filled out the YMCA gym to capacity!
There wasn’t a single seat left, chairs or bleachers. The support from
family members was unbelievable and our students experienced one of the
most powerful events a Jiu Jitsu Academy could possibly provide.

Popular MMA celebrities who attended the event included former UFC
welterweight champion Matt "The Terror" Serra, Renzo Gracie and Roger
Gracie.  Here are some of the pictures that were taken at the event (click here to check out the rest of them):
