The first UFC Fight Night event for 2008 will be held at The Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC Fight Night 12 is scheduled for January 23rd, 2008 and it will headline welterweights Josh Burkman vs. Mike Swick.
Josh Burkman has won 3 of his last 4 bouts, winning his last fight via a split decision against Forrest Petz in a bloody war . He will look to face a very tough Mike Swick. Swick will make his welterweight debut after winning 5 of his last 6 fights in the middleweight division. Although he lost to Yushin Okami via a unanimous decision at UFC 69, Swick was considered one of the top contenders at the middleweight level. He believes that he will be a more aggressive fighter at 170-lbs and we will wait and see how he’ll prove that on January 23rd.
Also on the card is the Canadian Patick Cote and Andrew McFedries. Cote had a brilliant year in mixed martial arts, adding 3 wins in 3 fights all in 2007. He’ll be sure to keep that winning streak going when he faces McFedries in a battle of the middleweights. McFedries is well-known for his quickness and punching power and if you don’t believe me, you can ask Jordan Radev after he was knocked by a McFedries punch at UFC Fight night 10.
With 2 great fights on the fight card, the UFC made sure to include an exciting lightweight battle. Thiago Tavares will be looking to face Michihiro Omigawa as they are both coming back from devastating losses. Tavares lost to Tyson Griffin via a unanimous decision, giving Tavares’ first loss in his MMA career. Omigawa made his UFC debut at UFC 76-knockout, losing to Mat Wiman via a unanimous decision. Omigawa will look to acquire his first win in the UFC at UFN 12 for himself and his fans.
