Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert, Ronald “Jacare” Souza, continues to help out Anderson “The Spider” Silva with his ground game in prepartion for his fight against Thales Leites at UFC 97. Silva’s stand-up seems to be just on point, but many question his Jiu-Jitsu skills. Leites is known for his ability to submit opponents and that could be a threat for the current UFC middleweight champion.
Souza has become Silva’s close sparring partner for this upcoming bout, especially because he felt that he needed to tweak up his ground work against an opponent like Leites. Souza believes that Silva is pretty much ready for anything that Leites decides to bring to the octagon, whether it be standing up or on the ground.
Snip from Souza himself (props to tatame.com):
“Anderson (Silva) is training well and is strong in all MMA fundaments. Anderson is a phenomenon standing, but if anyone thinks that will take Anderson down and submit, is completely wrong. He’s a talent on the ground, has black belt level…Anderson is intelligent and good on MMA, he can surprise any opponent. But, for this fight, I think he will make a game that he is better.”
