UFC 86: Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin (July 5)

In December of 2007, Dana White surprised us when he announced that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin would be the coaches for the Spike TV series "The Ultimate Fighter 7."  After hearing the great news, we all knew that eventually they would fight for the light heavyweight championship…but when??!

We can finally say that the current light heavyweight champion of the UFC, none other than Rampage Jackson, will be putting his belt on the line at UFC 86.  He is now officially scheduled to take on Forrest Griffin on July 5th, 2008.

Jackson has won 6 of his last MMA fights, including 3 consecutive wins in the UFC.  Rampage’s first victim was Marvin Eastman as he defeated him via KO-punches in the second round at UFC 67.
Thereafter, he was able to acquire the UFC light heavyweight belt when he knocked out Chuck Liddell in less than 2 minutes of the first round at UFC 71.  He then added another belt to his list when he stole Dan Henderson’s PrideFC 205lbs. belt at UFC 75-Champion vs. Champion (technically the unification belt).

Now, Rampage is forced battle it out against a very difficult opponent who has worked extremely hard to get to the top.  For the first time in his career, Griffin has been given a chance to win the 205-pound title.  Griffin has won 3 of his last 4 fights against top UFC contenders including Stephan Bonnar, Hector Ramirez and Mauricio Shogun.

Don’t forget to watch "The Ultimate Fighter 7" with these coaches as it premieres Wednesday-April 2nd, right after the UFC Fight Night 13 event- only on Spike TV.
