UFC 86: Frank Mir vs. Justin McCully Confirmed

Frank Mir has been given Justin McCully as his new opponent for UFC 86.  UFC 86 already headlines the TUF 7 coach duel between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin for the light heavyweight title.  The event is scheduled to take place on July 5th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Justin McCully has won his last 4 MMA bouts including a unanimous decision win over Antoni Hardonk at UFC Fight Night 9 in April of 2007.  It was a great way to start his UFC career, but it’s been one year since he last fought.  It won’t be an easy fight for Justin as he’ll be taking on the former heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

Mir has been trying to crawl right back up in the heavyweight division slowly but surely.  The former champ had a motorcyle accident in September of 2004 where he broke his femur and several ligaments in his knee.  It’s been 4 years now and Mir seems to be in top form once again.  He even proved to be one of the top competitors in the sport not too long ago when he completely stunned MMA fans all over the world.  After being pounded over and over by the WWE monster– Brock Lesnar, Mir quickly pulled out some of that jiu-jitsu magic and submitted Lesnar via a kneebar at UFC 81-Breaking Point.

The UFC 86 fight card looks to be shaping up really good so far.  We’ll keep everyone posted on future match-ups for this upcoming event.
