UFC 85: Brandon Vera vs. Fabricio Werdum

Fabricio Werdum was probably the best candidate to fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for UFC’s heavyweight title. However, Dana White feels that Werdum needs to get past someone else before he is given that privilege. Although no official agreement has been met as of yet, the UFC has chosen Brandon Vera as Werdum’s next opponent according to the Fight Network and it looks to be pretty much set for UFC 85. The event is scheduled for June in London, England at the O2 arena.

Werdum’s debut didn’t impress UFC fans when he lost to Andrei Arlovski at UFC 70 via a unanimous decision. After that monotonous bout he had with the Pitbull, he was able to redeem himself at UFC 80. It was there where he was able to regain UFC fan support as he defeated Gabriel Gonzaga for a second time in his MMA career, but this time he won via TKO-strikes.

Brandon Vera was undefeated prior to his last fight against Tim Sylvia. After adding the first loss to his record, he promised fans that he would be back to make up for the terrible performance. When Vera signed with the UFC, he worked his way up in the octagon by defeating 4 different opponents—Fabiano Scherner, Justin Eilers, Assuerio Silva and former heavyweight champion Frank Mir. We’ll be sure to see Vera at the top of his game as he prepares to face the Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert Fabricio Werdum.
