UFC 81: Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir

Super bowl weekend has already started to take shape!  The UFC has reported that Brock Lesnar will finally have his first opponent as he looks to debut within the octagon on February 2nd, 2008.  Lesnar will be taking on the former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir at UFC 81 as it is official according to Thomas Gerbasi of ufc.com.

Frank Mir became the heavyweight champion in 2004 when he defeated Tim Sylvia for the vacant title.  Thereafter, he suffered a devastating motorcycle accident which kept him away from mixed martial arts for almost 2 years.  Mir was never able to acquire the winning streaks all UFC fans were used to.  On his his first fight after his 2-year return, he lost to Marcio Cruz.  Afterwards, he won in a very disappointing performance to Dan Christison and then brutally lost again to Brandon Vera.

Mir decided to take a break and returned a year later.  At UFC 74-Respect (results and pics), he won against Antoni Hardonk in a match where many felt that the good old Mir was back to stay.  Now, he will look to take on a very powerful and lethal opponent as he intends to continue the winning streak he had long ago.

After winning on his MMA debut to Min Soo Kim in early June, Brock Lesnar will be put to the test.  His transition from K-1 to the UFC has helped him gain back the fans he once had during his professional wrestling career at WWE.  However, most fans don’t know that Lesnar has competed in amateur wrestling throughout highschool and college.  Lesnar finished his amateur wrestling career with as a 4-time all-American, 2-time Big Ten Champion and a 2-time College National Champion
with an overall record of 106-5.

More updates on UFC 81 will be posted as soon as we are informed.
