UFC 79: Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou signs with the UFC and debuts against Ryoto Machida (Dec. 29)

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou is set to make his UFC debut on the scheduled fight card for December 29, 2007 @ UFC 79-Nemesis.  Sokoudjou had some sort of a verbal agreement this past summer with K-1 in Japan and also with EliteXC, but everything fell apart with both organizations.  Now, Sokoudjou has agreed to fight with the UFC and now he will be facing Ryoto Machida, a very tough light heavyweight UFC competitor.

Machida is currently undefeated and holds a record of 11 wins, 0 losses.  Not only is he unbeaten, but he is also very close to having a title match.  Machida is considered amongst the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters in the world today holding notable wins over Kazuhiro Nakamura, BJ Penn, Rich Franklin and Stephan Bonnar.  His most recent victory was against Nakamura where he won via a unanimous decision at UFC 76-Knockout.

Sokoudjou is known worldwide now for knocking out two of the most lethal fighters in the game of MMA.  First, he knocked out the favored Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (brother to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira) at Pride 33 in under one minute.  Thereafter, he knocked out Ricardo Arona who was also the favorite at Pride 34 in under two minutes.  The African Assassin is already 4-1 and only 23 years old with a record now of 4 wins and only 1 loss.

The UFC 79-Nemesis fight card is looking real good already as it will be including Matt Serra vs. Matt Hughes for the welterweight title and Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell.
