Renato “Babalu” Sobral will be facing charges by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) due to a prolonged choke submission (anaconda choke) against David Heath on Saturday night at UFC 74-Respect (results and pics).
The referee, Steve Mazzagatti, tried to push Babalu out of the way as soon as Heath tapped out. However, Babalu insisted that he deserved it because “he has to learn respect.” The NSAC will be looking at the footage this week very thoroughly and 50% of Babalu’s paycheck ($25,000.00) will be withheld.
This is a terrible act of sportsmanlike conduct and hopefully this will be the last time we see such poor behavior by professional mixed martial artists.
