UFC 137 Results: Diaz Wins and Retires Penn, Kongo Victorious Over Mitrione

Main Fight Card:

  • Nick Diaz defeated BJ Penn via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-28)

**During the post-fight interview, BJ Penn announced his retirement to UFC color commentator Joe Rogan and to everyone that was watching at the sold-out arena in the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He later added, “Hats off to Nick Diaz…He’s the man. Joe, this is probably the last time you see me in here. I want to perform at the top level. … I’ve got a daughter. I’ve got another daughter on the way. I don’t want to go home looking like this.”

  • Cheick Kongo defeated Matt Mitrione via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-28, 29-28)
  • Roy Nelson defeated Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic via TKO (strikes) – Round 3 at 1:30

**Cro Cop also announced retirement as he stated that this fight was his “farewell” match.  He later told Rogan, “I wanted to say goodbye with a victory, but Roy was just the better fighter tonight.”

  • Scott Jorgensen defeated Jeff Curran via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
  • Hatsu Hioki defeated George Roop via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Preliminary Fight Card:

  • Donald Cerrone defeated Dennis Siver via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1 at 2:22
  • Bart Palaszewski defeated Tyson Griffin via knockout (punches) – Round 1 at 2:45
  • Brandon Vera defeated Eliot Marshall via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Ramsey Nijem defeated Danny Downes via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-26, 30-27)
  • Francis Carmont defeated Chris Camozzi via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Clifford Starks defeated Dustin Jacoby via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

    nick has awesome boxing, his head body combination always has flow. i hope he can impose his boxing against GSP.
