Rich Franklin Ready To Fight Chuck Liddell At UFC 115, Plans On Making Light Heavyweight Title Run

The former UFC middleweight (185 pounds) champion Rich ‘Ace’ Franklin respects the skills and power of his UFC 115 opponent, the former light heavyweight champion and MMA veteran Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell.   Franklin has told the press that he is tired of “counterproductive” match-ups such as fighting at catch-weight simply to entertain fans and earn a buck in the UFC.  Instead, he’d like to make another run at the title, but this time it would be in the light heavyweight division (205 pounds).  He’ll start with Chuck and if successful, he’ll keep on fighting his way up the division.

From Rich Franklin:

“If I cut back down to 185, it’s a completely different cut to make it and I will have completely undone everything I’ve done to put on the size I have. I want to make a run for the title and I don’t want to keep doing things that are counterproductive to that, like fights at 195. You can’t count Chuck out of any fight. Yeah, he hasn’t fought in a year, and yeah, he’s lost four of his past five fights, but look at what he’s done over the span of his career. He’s a legend and he has beaten such an incredible list of opponents, it would be a huge mistake to look past a guy like him.”
