Ricardo Almeida signs with the UFC

Ricardo “Cachorrao” Almedia will look to fight for the UFC after a 3-year absence.  Almeida last fought at Pride’s Bushido 3 tournament in May of 2004.  According to graciemag.com, Almeida has signed a 6-fight deal with the UFC and will look to fight as early as February of 2008.

With an 8-2 record, Cachorrao has beaten top UFC names in the past including Nathan Marquardt and newcomer Ryo Chonan.  He was ready to fight earlier this month with Cage Fury Fighting Championships at CFFC 6:Unleashing the Fury, but that event was canceled.  After looking through several other organizations, Dana White offered Almeida the 6-fight contract.  Expect to see quality performances by the Renzo Gracie black belt specialist when he enters the octagon next year.

Here’s a snip from Cachorrao:

“The final goal of my return was to get to the UFC, so I thought why not go straight there at once”
