Paul Buentello Felt Like He Did Enough To Win Against Stefan Struve At UFC 107

Buentello and Struve at UFC 107

Paul ‘The Headhunter’ Buentello loses to Stefan Struve at UFC 107 via decision in a stand-up brawl to be remembered.  MMA fans were on their feet when both heavyweight fighters stood toe to toe, landing several strikes on numerous occasions throughout all three rounds.  Alan Belcher and Wilson Gouveia won fight of the night in their slugfest war, but Buentello vs. Struve had to come in second with their non-stop striking war.

During a UFC 107 post-fight interview, Buentello discusses his thoughts on his performance.  He felt he won the fight over Struve and is convinced that UFC fans thought he was victorious as well.  Nonethless, Struve won via majority decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 28-28.

Snip from Paul Buentello:

“I feel like I did enough, I could have done a little bit more, but the fans watched the fight. I was in the fight so it’s hard to judge it until I watch it on TV. I just needed that one extra [burst] of aggression. I should have put more pressure on him, but the fans watched it and they saw something. I knew I did some good things. It’s pretty cool that the fans knew who the real winner was. I felt good, I wasn’t tired but I may have given him a little too much respect on his knee but then again I had to reach down deeper. Some times you just have to grab your (expletive) and go — and that’s one thing I didn’t do.”
