MMA Trainer Cesar Gracie Says Nick Diaz Only Temporarily Retired

Immediately after Bruce Buffer announced that Carlos Condit had defeated Nick Diaz via unanimous decision at UFC 143, the former Strikeforce champion’s jaw just dropped.  The controversial decision would eventually lead to Diaz announcing his retirement in mixed martial arts.  To many it was unknown whether Diaz would ever return after an extremely disappointing loss and to top it off, he was fined 30 percent of his fight purse and suspended for 1 year after testing positive for Marijuana after the bout.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert and MMA trainer Cesar Gracie, revealed that the young Mexican-American fighter had plans on coming back to the octagon when the time was right.  For now, he’s just “temporarily retired” according to Gracie.

Snip from Cesar Gracie:

“There’s retired and there’s retired. One day you have a job and you retire, you’re retired. But Nick’s too young, he’s what, 28 (or) 29, whatever he is. I think the word can be used … how about temporarily retired? I think that would be a better thing about it, he’s temporarily retired.”
