Mauricio Shogun Wins Two In A Row, Eyes Possible Rematch Fight Against Forrest Griffin

After an impressive win over Chuck Liddell at UFC 97, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua proved he still possessed the skills he once had in Japan over at PrideFC.  Many UFC fans were disappointed when he made his octagon debut at UFC 79, losing to Forrest Griffin via a rear naked choke in the third round.  Thereafter, he was forced to undergo 2 separate knee surgeries before returning to the cage to face former UFC heavyweight champion Mark “The Hammer” Coleman at UFC 93.  Although he barely managed to add his first win in the UFC by defeating Coleman, his victory wasn’t very convincing.  It was a rough start for Shogun as he tried to please his fans in the American-based organization.

His win over Liddell helped him gain back popularity once again.

Now, he’ll have to test his fighting skills even further amongst other top opponents in UFC’s light heavyweight competitive division.  There are rumors of two possible rematches in the near future which include a bout against either Forrest Griffin or Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.  Shogun lost to Griffin in his UFC debut, but defeated Rampage in April of 2005 at PrideFC.

Snip from Mauricio Shogun (props to tatame.com):

“Nobody spoke yet (about my next fight), but my goal is to win the next one. I’m already focused for the next fight. I’ll fight anyone, but a rematch (with Forrest Griffin) would be welcome. He’s a good fighter and it’d be a good fight. I’ll fight anyone, but it’d be cool to fight him again, I’d love it”
