UFC President Dana White promised a light heavyweight rematch bout between current champion Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. The five round war they had back in Octover at UFC 104 led to what many believe as one of the most controversial decisions in the history of mixed martial arts. The razor-thin decision went in favor of Machida even though the majority of the viewers thought that Shogun clearly won the fight.
In the eyes of the judges, Machida did enough to defend the title while Shogun lacked the ability to beat the champion in at least three of those five rounds. Although White truly believed that Shogun won the fight, the decision that was made by CSAC judges is completely out of his control. In order to please MMA fans, he agreed to schedule an immediate light heavyweight rematch between both Brazilians. According to Yahoo Sports, both fighters will most likely headline a UFC event that is headed to Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 1st, 2010.
