Kazuhiro Nakamura fought Lyoto Machida during his UFC debut at UFC 76-Knockout. Immediately after the fight, Nakamura failed a drug test and the results indicated that he was marijuana in his system.
Nakamura immediately appealed the positive drug test as he felt that it was absolutely absurd. Marijuana is considered extremely anti-cultural in Japan, especially for a superstar like him. Mixed martial artists and fans from his side of town look up to him in so many ways and the news of him using marijuana was something that he and his coaching staff found it to be almost impossible.
Nonetheless, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) felt strong about their results. He has been given a 3-month suspension and a $500 USD fine for his use of illegal drugs in the sport of MMA.
