After Brock Lesnar practically destroyed Frank Mir during their rematch bout at UFC 100, MMA fans began to ask themselves, which heavyweight could really take on this monstruous Lesnar?  Fedor Emelianenko would be the first name that would pop up into the minds of numerous MMA fans because of his supernatural powers in the ring and his unique fight skills.

Many even counted out upcoming title contenders Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin off the bat.  They just didn’t seem the right heavyweights to defeat this powerful and gigantic beast.

UFC President Dana White immediately began to state that he had plans of making extra efforts to sign Fedor Emelianenko, promising a superfight against Brock Lesnar sometime in the near future.  What many didn’t remember was that Fedor is currently training for the biggest match of his career, a difficult battle against the former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett. Fedor vs. Barnett will headline the Affliction ‘Trilogy’ main event on the night of August 1st, 2009 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.  Even Barnett started hearing all of the rumors and was bothered by some of the comments.

Here’s what Josh Barnett had to say about all of the talk:

“I read that Dana (White) says they’ll get Fedor and make Fedor vs. Brock and it’ll be great. Better get a new plan after August 1st.”
