Frank Mir is scheduled to fight former WWE heavyweight wrestler Brock Lesnar at UFC 98 on May 23rd for the UFC heavyweight title unification. However, Mir suffered a knee injury that may postpone the anticipated heavyweight rematch. Mir’s camp stated that his knee began to swell excessively during a training session. He was immediately checked up by doctors and an arthroscopic surgery was performed to clean up his right knee. The surgery will keep him out about 4-6 weeks which may postpone the rematch bout to a later date.
UFC President Dana White was asked by media about Mir’s injury, but states is unaware of his injury:
“I don’t know anything about it, so I honestly couldn’t tell you anything about it…I’m not too worried about it now. If that were the situation, I’d know about it. I honestly don’t know right now. I haven’t talked to Frank and I haven’t talked to Lesnar and if that’s the situation, I’m not going to make any statements until I talk to everybody…if he were hurt and the fight was off, I’d assume I would know.”
