The former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir defeated Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic with just one minute remaining in the third round of the UFC 119 main event. Mir believes that his performance was pretty disappointing and admits that Cro Cop’s gameplan along with his speed threw him off. Although he made several mistakes throughout the fight, he is content with the fact that he was able to trade strikes with a stand-up expert that Cro Cop is and still claim victory by way of KO.
From Frank Mir:
“No disrespect, it was a pretty s**** performance as far as I wanted to push the pace more. I have to be honest, while he’s swinging punches at you, it’s not as easy. He caught my attention pretty early with his velocity of how hard he was throwing his left hook. That style he never really used before, also the way he exited to the left kind of threw me. As far as striking aspect of it I could have gotten more busy. I got really frustrated because with pushing him against the cage, I drilled so much but I made mistakes that I wasn’t making like lifting my arm up and exposing my ribcage. I think I had too much time to think and I had to clear my mind. But then again, without a single takedown, I was able to stand up with Mirko for two and a half rounds and win by KO.”
