Former UFC Champ Carlos Newton Victorious Over Shonie Carter At Warrior 1 ‘High Voltage’

Newton beats Carter

This past weekend (Oct. 10), the former UFC welterweight champion Carlos “The Ronin” Newton fought in the Warrior 1 ‘High Voltage’ main event against Shonie Carter.  The battle took place at the Robert Guertin Arena in Gatineau, Quebec–Canada.

The bout was orginally set for a five-round title fight, but Newton failed to make weight.  The match was then changed to a three-round catch weight and Newton would be forced to forfeit a portion of his purse.  Newton then failed to make the required catch weight, which cut his paycheck even further but both fighters agreed to fight anyway.  Newton claimed victory over Carter via a unanimous decision, making it his second consecutive MMA win.

From Shonie Carter:

“I came out to do my job to the best of my ability and I came up a little short this time. Carlos is a most worthy opponent — he should be in the hall of fame and I think that his time will come.”
